Hi,

All style/css changes in wordpress should be done via a child theme. At that point, overriding css is the same as with any online product, better targeting, forced styles using !important, and other popular techniques that go far beyond wordpress.

Once you have setup the child theme, if you are having issues overriding css, post it here and we would be happy to take a look.
